Playacting: a new requirement in modern day football [Jun 14, 2014]
MaxxRamblings (Football): In my humble opinion, I think FIFA is putting its money to solve the wrong issues. Instead of installing 14 cameras beside each goalpost, trying to determine whether the ball had crossed the line, I think that they should be more inclined to solving the more pressing issue that dogs the sport - PLAYACTING.
It is an evil that plagues the sport and ruins the moments like nothing else and every one seems to be afflicted by it. Even the current legends have mastered the art of feigning.. It not just spoils the game momentarily but may change the final outcome as well. Even in the wee hours of this years World cup (2014), we see that teams are well into this heinous act... I, as an ardent follower and supporter of the best game of the world, am sick and tired of players ducking, diving, feigning injury trying to win a decision from the refs. But we have to remember all that they are trying to extract a decision which ultimately is unjust and unfair, and FIFA should make it illegal as well. Looks so stupid that a footballer who is built like a gladiator (as demands the tough and enduring nature of the game), but crumbling down like a pack of cards when he is touched by an opponent.(moonstruck!!)
I don't think it would take much to dissuade the otherwise champs to keep off this unfair practise. Obviously they didnt strat to play the game with the theatrics, all have their fundamentals firmly in place and just a shaking of the system can get rid of this evil. Post match review system, which is already in place, needs to be given more teeth, If a team is tonked for such unfair practise, like deducting points or banning the players for the rest of the tournament, it should be deterrent enough.
Coaches: I read somewhere that now we have specialized coaches who teach the how to take the plunge most conclusively. Instead, instill the good habits and help better the game.
And players: if you still want to exercise your acting skills over your ball playing skills then I request that you to switch over to showbiz, where it will definitely be appreciated.. Oscars and not the Cup awaits you!!!!

My observations: A TV debate on Bharat Ratna awarded to Tendulkar and Professor Rao [Nov 19, 2013]
MaxxRamblings: Today was watching an NDTV debate on the Bharat Ratna, with the obvious reference to Sachin and Prof Rao..
The members of the debate were all equivocal to the fact that the Bharat Ratna should be someone who is par excellence in his field of work, should have contributed to the nation positively, will be remembered forever for a significant deed or deeds.
The debate centered around topics like, should sportsmen be considered? How to eradicate nepotism and favoritism from the selection process? Should it be awarded posthumously?.. etc..
Vinod Mehta and Ashish Nandy, said, since the Sportmen and Entertainers already have plethora of Award ceremonies, they should be excluded.. to which Javed Akhtar chided, Tendulkar and Lata Mangeshwar fills the nation with pride, pleasure, satisfaction like no other.. a thought which I too second (one of the blue moon occasions when I would echo Javed Akhtar's thoughts)
Then I noticed small acts of regionalism in the debate:
N Ram voiced that eminent Mathematician CV Raman (considered God by the Indian maths community) and the noted agriculturist M Swaminathan (Father of Indian Green Revolution) were ignored whereas Prof Rao was chosen..He also stated that some of the people were awarded simply because they had died a horrible death, obviously alluding to Rajiv Gandhi, we all know that our Southern most neighbours have a special gripe towards the Late PM... to which Ashish Nandy quipped that SN Bose was ignored too..
The debate took a interesting turn when the host Karan Thapar, recounted some interesting yet disconcerting facts
- 25 of the 45 awardees so far are Politicians.. Well we all now know who chooses the Bharat Ratnas, right? And to dig little deeper, almost all of them belong to a single party.. any guesses which??
- Nelson Mandela and Ghan Abdul Gafar Khan were awardees too, God knows what contribution they made to become a Jewels of India...
- Many of the awardees were awarded post humously, and there too politicians take the cake. Does it really merit that such a prestigious prize be given post humously? And if so where do we stop? Can some one propose Gautam Buddha, Ashoka or Akbar?
-One interesting fact is that the ex Prez Dr. Kalam had refused to accept the award reasoning that he himself was a part of the jury.
I liked one suggestion that the benchmarks for receiving the award and the nominations and their scores be published.
All in all it was a thoroughly enjoyable debate, wherein all the participants were quite vociferous and pushed their points quite strongly...

Visit to the San Diego Sea World [Jul 27, 2013]
MaxxRamblings: Had one of my best weekends EVER!!! We had an impromptu trip to the San Diego Sea World.. Supposedly the best of all the Water Parks of the world. And for a avid Animal lover, nature freak, it was the biggest treat.. The shows that we watched were...
1. The Blue Horizon Show.. featuring, Dolphins, Pilot Whales, Macaws, Pelicans, Hawks and Vultures besides a host of handlers and acrobats.. It has a beautiful storyline enacted too..
2. The Shamu Show, the best known Killer Whale show of the world, featuring about 10 whales.. and boy are they big!!!!!! they could splash upto 20 rows with a single swipe from their tailfin. The Whales were a delight to watch as they danced, jumped, performed tricks and pirouetted around the gigantic tank..
3. The Sea Lions and the Otters Show, Another very funny show by performing two California Sea Lions and an Otter..
and then there were 5 or 6 other shows and 20 different exhibition centers, featuring, Dolphins, Sharks, Turtles, Beluga whales, Polar Bears, Walruses, Otters, Llamas, Alligators, Armadillos and many many more animals..
The best part was to get splashed by the Dolphins and Whales... Oh boy do u get completely soaked or what!!!
It was quite a expensive show, but boy was it every penny well spent or what!!! I just had a small thorn pricking my conscience all thru everywhere I enjoyed, it was about my boy Wrik and how too would have enjoyed had he been part of the entourage.. I would definitely get him to it .. someday!!!
It was an experience of a life time, especially for a wildlife enthusiast like me.. I could never in my lifetime imagine of getting so close to a Killer Whale or a Dolphin or a shark. The Walruses, Beluga whales and the Pilot whales were shrouded with mysticism. The elan and ease of the performances of the trainers and the acrobats was awe inspiring.. I couldn't take any pix of the Madagascar show, since it was pitch dark. I had touched on a alligator baby, albeit under supervision of its caretaker.. There was a show featuring pets like Dogs, Cats and Pigs, the nicest thing to know were they were mostly from rescue homes..There were more than 100 exhibits in all.. a must visit for the people who are visiting San Diego or nearby..
Later on the day, After I had uploaded the pix, a friend had replied with his thoughts about such shows where amidst all the fanfare we forget that these majestic creatures are still captives who will never ever have the pleasure of wandering in the vast sea and will be forever doomed to be creatures proving pleasures to human beings.... I was toughed and on introspection found much merit to it... I researched a lot and found a lot of documents in the internet about the great dark underbelly of such fun parks...

Need some rest
For the last 3 weeks I am hardly getting any sleep.
I am reading and reading and reading.. Techinal blogs, eBooks, Hardcopies of technical books, watching webcasts and podcasts of seminars and technology discussions.. The mind is overflowing with acronyms and jargons like Patterns, Garbage collection, WCF, WPF, WF and blah blah...
Need to augment myself and get me market ready...
Need to do some Hands on now.. I wonder are all architects like tht? Do they spend all their time just coding / reading / blogging and the likes... maybe...
During this last few days of hectic studying, I realized how much I fell behind in the ever changing/emerging world of cutting edge technology..

Wrik is growing up
Wrik, my son is growing..every day I spend some time watching him playing, watching cartoons and blabbering the sweet nothings.. I get overwhelmedby this miracle of nature..how the tiny blob of life is rapidly metamorphosing..
I also am getting wary of the incoming tidal wave of queries and uncomfortable statements which will be there as he begins to form the sentences..
I try to spend some time playing with him everyday..Yesterday he wasn't keeping too well.. and didnt sleep well too..
He is a joy to watch when he is in full steam, but the flip side is u may get singed by his exuberance too :) He is a bundle of energy packaged in a tiny body..Last time when we went to a public gathering, I cud warm my seat for just about 10 mins, following my tiny bundle of kinetic energy all around the auditorium and beyond. He cared two hoots about the nice function, or that the other kids were nicely ensconced in their parents' laps..He was just running and running and running.. He was sweating like a steam engine driver.. but kept on running..
Have to do something bout his obstinacy though..He is very head strong and can be a very hard nut to crack at times..
looking for ward to spending another eventful evening with him....
Seeya..

New resolution: will blog every now and then :)
This blogspace was lying fallow for a very long time, since I dint have anything worthwhile to post. I used to only use thisspace as a repository for storing intersting stuff like music, recipes etc. rather than using it for venting my feelings and views. But I am shaken and awakened by the ongoing bruhaha about blogging/teeting/RSSing/Buzzing etc and sundry.
So I have made up my mind to publish something or the other bout me and my immediate surroundings every so often.
Disclaimer: Since it is an impromptu attempt, and will definitely be bereft of any proofing, it will be full spelling/grammatical rerrors (sic ;))...
So please ignore..
